Ron DeSantis Offers Holdout Juror In Lindsay Clancy Case Asylum In Florida

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) offered asylum to the holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial after it was revealed the juror has a history of domestic abuse allegations.

“A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected,” DeSantis wrote Friday on X. “Another low for legacy media. If the juror is being harassed, Florida will provide asylum — I’m sure he’d be welcomed and appreciated.”

On Friday, NBC10Boston reported that the juror from Massachusetts who hung the Clancy trial ― and who hasn’t been publicly identified ― has a history of domestic abuse allegations, including a restraining order against him. He was also charged with allegedly assaulting his then-wife in 2021. The restraining order, which was active when the juror was chosen to serve on the Clancy trial jury, is from the juror’s nephew for allegedly punching him. Criminal charges do not automatically disqualify someone from serving on a jury in Massachusetts.

These allegations were brought to light after a few jurors came forward to give insight into the deliberations. After five weeks of testimony, the jury deliberated on whether they believe Clancy, who killed her three children, should be held criminally responsible for their deaths. After seven days of deliberations, the jury said they couldn’t come to a unanimous decision, and it was revealed through a note to the judge that one juror was refusing to apply reasonable doubt toward the verdict and wouldn’t acquit Clancy. The case was declared a mistrial.

“He was very arrogant,” juror Paula Devlin told NBC10Boston on Tuesday. “He really did not take anything that anybody said.”

Kellie Farina, another juror, said the holdout juror “had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children.”

Clancy’s trial, which was televised, became a spectacle and made women’s healthcare a topic of conversation. Clancy and her defense never denied she killed her young children, but they argued Clancy was suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis when she killed them and shouldn’t be held criminally responsible. The prosecution, however, argued Clancy knew right from wrong when she killed them.
