Seems Like Melania Trump Didn’t Get The Memo About Her Husband’s Press Ban

Melania Trump doesn’t seem to be joining in her husband’s efforts to stifle the press.

Despite President Donald Trump revoking CNN’s access to the White House over the weekend, the first lady’s office reportedly granted credentials to one of the news outlet’s senior reporters to cover her at the UN General Assembly in New York City this week.

CNN’s chief media analyst Brian Stelter dropped this intriguing bit of intel while discussing how journalists plan to work around the president’s media ban, which targeted CNN, Politico and MS NOW. That ban prompted the White House’s television press pool to pull their coverage on Monday.

“We’re going to see reporters get creative. That’s what we do sometimes when we have to. We’re going to see reporters try and get credentialed in other ways,” Stelter said before revealing how Melania Trump gave CNN access to cover her on the sidelines at the General Assembly.

CNN reporter Betsy Klein was among the journalists physically barred from entering White House grounds on Saturday morning. Recounting what happened, Klein said she learned only after her press badge failed to work at a security checkpoint she routinely passes through that it had been deactivated and would be confiscated.

Klein wasn’t the only one blindsided by the change. According to her sources within the White House, Trump did not give staff a “heads up” before he announced he was revoking CNN, Politico and MS NOW’s media access in a Friday post on Truth Social.

In a joint suit filed on Monday morning, the trio of outlets called the president’s edict a “direct assault on the First Amendment” and a “blatant violation of our most fundamental constitutional principles.”

Trump pushed back almost immediately, claiming the ban was not an attack on press freedom but rather an “assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America.”
