These GOP Candidates Are Turning On Trump's Iran War

Several Republican candidates in tight races are coming out against the war President Donald Trump started with Iran.

Since February’s start of the war, more than a dozen U.S. service members have died, and gas and oil prices continue to skyrocket. The war has already cost taxpayers nearly $40 billion since it began, and has no clear end in sight as Iran continues to hold dominion over the Strait of Hormuz ― a major international shipping lane that has affected the global economy with its closure.

Rep. Ashley Hinson, an Iowa Republican lawmaker running for Senate, on Monday in a post on X called for an end to the war, saying in part that Iowans “shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran.”

Hinson’s post was particularly surprising given she has voted against House resolutions to end the war at least six times, including one just last week.

Michigan GOP Senate candidates Mike Rogers also issued a warning on Monday in an ad urging an end to hostilities.

“The war with Iran needs to end and end quickly,” Rogers said in the new ad. “When it does, energy costs will plummet, but Michigan families can’t afford to wait for that to happen.”

Ohio Sen. Jon Husted (R) gave a similar concern on Monday, telling Politico that the war must end to lower gas pries.

“The war needs to come to an end as quickly as possible so that we can lower gas prices,” he told the publication.

Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Rep. John James added to the chorus of ending the war.

“Iran cannot have a nuke, but I’ve always said that we need to use every resource at our disposal to bring this war to an end quickly,” James said during a Tuesday press conference. “Nobody wants war, least of all our veterans.”

Also on Tuesday, Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), the Republican nominee in the state’s race for governor, called for an exit strategy.

“I just believe that we should be exiting Iran, that it’s time to move on,” Tiffany told Fox6Now. “We’ve degraded their nuclear facilities. We degraded their military. Most of their ships are at the bottom of the ocean. Time to come home, take care of business here in America.”

In his interview with Politico, Husted added: “I don’t know anybody that doesn’t want the war to come to an end.”

Husted should look no further than Trump, who has expressed little interest in ending his military escapade. Last week, Trump reportedly told Fox News’ correspondent Trey Yingst that annihilating the nation might be his only way out of this.

“My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up?” Trump reportedly said. “They better behave.”
