The conservative podcast sphere that helped buoy President Donald Trump into the White House appears to be turning its back on him, according to a detailed analysis the Wall Street Journal published Wednesday.

Using an in-house AI tool to analyze more than 70,000 hours of audio across 147 political podcasts, the Journal found that right-wing programs’ mentions of the president have plummeted by a staggering 70% since their peak ahead of the 2024 election.
MAGA-aligned media’s Trump references hit an apex of about 39 mentions per hour in the run-up to his second White House win. As of Sep. 20, that number had slumped to just 11 per hour.
Data shows a dramatic decline tracking alongside the Iran war and the economic chaos it has wrought. Since the U.S. and Israel kicked off joint operations targeting Iran in late February, there was a 30% drop in monthly mentions of the president on the conservative podcasts evaluated.
The topic of Trump more or less held steady across the left-leaning content analyzed, consistently clocking mentions per hour in the mid-30s between 2024 and now.

As the MAGA media ecosystem pulls back from the president, it’s shifted its focus dramatically.
According to the Journal’s data, right-wing podcasts discussed Texas Senate candidate James Talarico more than any other Democrat, save for former presidents.
Talarico is currently polling hairs ahead of Texas attorney general and Trump ally Ken Paxton. If elected, he would be the first Democrat to win state office since 1994.
