Conservative Host Says Private GOP Midterm Warning Is So Bad He Almost Kept It Secret

Conservative radio host Steve Deace sounded the alarm for Republicans on Wednesday, revealing what he said were dire private polling warnings being delivered to Iowa House Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterms.

The host of “The Steve Deace Show,” which airs on Blaze Media, wrote on X that Iowa House Republicans had been told by their own pollsters that even normally safe GOP territory could be at risk this November amid wider backlash against Donald Trump, his failure to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and his Iran war.

“I slept on whether to share this publicly, because I don’t want to cause anyone to black pill,” Deace wrote. “But this morning I ultimately decided the truth should be shared while there is still six weeks left to do something about it for the good of the country. Because if the environment is this bad in my home state, where Trump has been the most popular political figure over the last decade, I can’t imagine where it is everywhere else.”

Yesterday, Iowa House Republicans were informed by their own pollsters that if you are in a +15 district you’re within the margin for error, if you’re in a +10 district you’re underwater, and that this might end being an even worse midterm environment than 2006.

Deace placed much of the blame on the war with Iran, which Donald Trump launched in February and which he described as “a 2020 Covid lockdown level of political albatross” that’s “risking what’s left of the Trump presidency” and has “become an existential misuse of political capital.”

Deace said Republicans need to focus first on problems at home.

“I desperately want us to win. I desperately want this presidency to fulfill all the great promise it had coming out of the 2024 election. But whatever this currently is, isn’t it,” he said. “We don’t have to just sit here and take the L. It doesn’t have to end this way.”

“We can still win. There’s plenty of ammunition to hammer the Democrats with,” Deace added, urging Trump to hit the campaign trail and calling for “better and way more aggressive messaging.”

“And for heaven’s sake, make sure [Supreme Court Justices] Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas are getting the finest healthcare in America,” he concluded.
