President Donald Trump is well into his “sundowning” period and will become more dangerous if the Democrats retake Congress in the midterms, famed economist Paul Krugman wrote in a Substack on Wednesday.

Krugman, a former New York Times columnist, wrote, “Mad King Donald … won’t feel that he has failed America, he will believe that America has failed him and try to punish the nation accordingly. Krugman, who won the 2008 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, said the media’s emphasis on Trump’s lying and “belligerence” this week during his United Nations speech ― in which he threatened to annihilate Iran and made up data about economic success ― was misplaced.
“Isn’t the bigger story the fact that the leader of what used to be the world’s most powerful nation — I say ‘used to be’ because America’s power is collapsing before our eyes — has clearly and undeniably lost his mind?” Krugman wrote.

Krugman noted that he penned a post months ago headlined “It’s Sundowning In America” because of “Trump’s demented demands that he receive the Nobel Peace Prize.”
“The damage being done by Deranged Trump Syndrome was already obvious,” he asserted. “And that was before Trump squandered America’s military credibility, as well as a dangerously large share of our munitions, on his catastrophic war-of-choice in Iran.”
Krugman isn’t the first Trump critic (and non-health professional) to claim the president’s behavior is akin to the late-day confusion associated with “sundowning.”
