‘Delusional Fantasy Land’: Critics Rip Trump Over His Most Blatant Lie Yet

Critics are hitting President Donald Trump with a real-time price check after he insisted that the cost of common items ― including groceries ― is coming down.

“With the exception of oil, which is lower than the Biden administration ― and we no longer have to worry about nuclear weapons with Iran because they’re wiped out ― but with the exception of oil, everything is going down, we have it going down,” he said to the media on Sunday night.

Prices are not going down, crude oil remains elevated, and the war with Iran is turning into a quaqmire ― and those three facts are causing Republican candidates to plunge in the polls ahead of November’s midterm elections.

Yet Trump made a similar claim earlier in the day.

“Prices for groceries have come way down from Biden,” he said. “Almost every price has come way down.”

CNN fact checker Daniel Dale said none of that is true.

“Overall grocery prices are up 3.4% since Jan. 2025, and way more grocery items are up than down,” he wrote on X, then provided some receipts with images showing common supermarket items and how much the price has increased since Trump returned to office:

Trump today: “Prices for groceries have come way down from Biden. Almost every price has come way down.”

No. Again.

Dale pointed out that eggs cost more in the final months of the Biden administration because of a bird flu outbreak.

While those are now cheaper, “the overwhelming majority of items have gotten more expensive.”

Dale added: “It’s fair to note that grocery prices tend to rise no matter who the president is. But this president keeps lying that there has been grocery *deflation.*”

Other critics on social media were even more blunt:

Saying “oil is cheaper” while gas is more expensive is like bragging wheat is cheaper while bread costs more. Oil being lower does not automatically mean gas is lower. Do his supporters really fall for this bullshit? Are they that simple? Americans don’t pull up to the pump and… https://t.co/7O2lfwbWpC

Isn’t this what he said last year about Iran’s nuclear capabilities?
Is this a yearly statement?
