Grammy-Winning Artist Behind Britney Spears And Usher Songs Fatally Stabbed In London

Police in the United Kingdom arrested, but later released, three people suspected in connection with the fatal stabbing of Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Mark “Yinka” Orabiyi, known professionally as Talay Riley, who was found dead last week at a garden in east London.

“Mark was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He brought love, light, and joy to our family and to all who knew him,” Orabiyi’s family said in a statement shared by Greater London’s Metropolitan Police. “We will always cherish his kindness, beautiful spirit, and remarkable talent. His presence touched many lives, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever.”

Police said they were called around 9 a.m. Friday with a report of a man being stabbed in the Silvertown area. They found Orabiyi in a nearby garden with stab wounds. Paramedics attempted lifesaving efforts, but Orabiyi was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is a tragic incident and my thoughts remain with Mark’s family and loved ones,” wrote Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the death investigation.

The chief is asking the public for help and seeking anyone who may have footage of the incident.

Another man in his 20s also sustained multiple stab wounds and was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Three people — a 27-year-old man, a 24-year-old man, and a 25-year-old woman — were arrested following the incident. The 27-year-old was released on bail, while the other two were released with no further action.

Orabiyi is credited with writing for artists including Nick Jonas, Chris Brown, Usher and Britney Spears. He earned his Grammy for writing “Lights On” by H.E.R.

Orabiyi’s family and manager, Cleo Amedume, shared a statement on Instagram in tribute to the late artist.

“Talay will fondly be remembered by those who knew him publicly for his incredible talent as a Grammy Award winning, multi platinum selling songwriter & artist,” the statement said. “For those that knew and loved him personally it is his humour, generous spirit and unmistakable presence that will be missed the most.”
