Podcaster Apologizes For Promoting Betting On Lindsay Clancy Trial: 'I Feel Sick'

A pop-culture podcaster has apologized for promoting betting on the Lindsay Clancy trial on the gambling platform Polymarket.

Amanda Hirsch, the host of the podcast “Not Skinny But Not Fat,” faced backlash after she posted partner content with Polymarket, writing, “On Polymarket it was predicted the verdict would be Not Guilty. Are you surprised? #Polymarketpartner,” according to Variety. The Friday post has since been deleted.

Hirsch quickly faced fallout from her fans and listeners, and now she is saying the post was “out of character.”

“Posting about the Lindsay Clancy trial in the same breath as a brand partnership was completely insensitive, wrong, and out of character for me — I should have known better, and I feel sick that I didn’t see that in the moment,” Hirsch wrote Sunday on Instagram. The comments to the post are turned off.

She continued, saying she “became so consumed” with the trial that she “completely lost perspective” and didn’t think about how “grossly inappropriate” her post was.

“I made a terrible judgment call and I feel so fucking awful about that,” Hirsch wrote. “I know deleting it doesn’t erase it. Believe me, I’m horrified by the choice I made and please know this lapse in judgment does not represent who I am as a person. I am so deeply sorry.”

Clancy was on trial for killing her three young children. While her defense never denied she killed the children, they argued she was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she did. The prosecution, however, alleged Clancy knew right from wrong when she killed her kids and that she should be held criminally responsible for the deaths.

The trial took over social media with viewers deeply divided on what the verdict should be. Clancy supporters lined up outside the courthouse to show their support for her. Others shared their sympathy for her by sharing their own experiences with postpartum psychosis and depression on social media.

On Friday, after seven days of deliberations, the jurors said they couldn’t come to a unanimous decision, and the judge declared a mistrial.

The trial even caught the attention of President Donald Trump, who told reporters the case is a “shame” and a “horrible tragedy.”

“It’s a terrible situation,” Trump told reporters Friday. “Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can’t be worse, but you’ll find out what the price to pay is. There’ll be a price. It’s going to be mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they’re going to go through another trial. It’s too bad.”

A status hearing on the case has been set for Sept. 29.
