They are lightweight with an opaque plastic material that allows you to have an idea what is inside. The strap is a sturdy, canvas type material that is sewn into the plastic around the entire bag, This is important because it allows for better balance and it does not pull on the bag. I found it is easier to transport these bags than storage containers because you can fit more into a small space. I now use these to store my winter and summer clothes.
