A White House Spokeswoman Just Compared Elections To Olive Garden. Yes, Really.

Things got saucy on social media Friday after a White House spokeswoman suggested that Olive Garden cares more about security for its never-ending pasta pass than Democrats do about election security.

During an appearance on Newsmax, Abigail Jackson tried to drum up support for Donald Trump’s Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act, which, if passed, would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote and a photo ID at the time of voting.

The president insists the legislation would combat voter fraud even though studies show it happens very rarely. Critics say the bill could potentially disenfranchise eligible voters who might not have access to the documents needed to prove citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport.

However, Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) admitted last week that the bill just doesn’t have enough votes to become law.

Jackson blamed Democrats for the lack of support during her interview before suggesting the Italian-inspired fast casual chain was an example of how to do things right.

“I saw a tweet yesterday from Olive Garden, all of places, that in order to take advantage of their never-ending pasta pass, you have to show photo ID,” she said. “I thought, that’s weird, Olive Garden takes pasta pass security more seriously than Democrats take election security.”

Although Jackson was correct that Olive Garden limits its never-ending pasta pass to the person whose name is on the pass, many people on social media found the comparison a little hard to swallow.

That’s because a private company’s business policy towards the consumption of its main product is very different from, say, a constitutional right to vote.

The IDs needed for Olive Garden, to buy beer, or board a domestic flight are not accepted under the SAVE America Act.

If companies only accepted SAVE America Act-approved IDs, they’d go out of business.

Olive Garden asks for a simple photo ID so you can freeload off of unlimited pasta.

They don’t want to see your birth certificate and marriage license so they can prevent you from exercising a fundamental American right.
