Harvard constitutional law professor emeritus Laurence Tribe reached back centuries on Thursday in a bid to put Donald Trump’s latest clash with the media into context.

And Tribe argued on CNN that the president has now gone further than some of history’s most powerful monarchs in his bid for total power.
“This president does not recognize that he is subject to the law. I was trying to think of parallels in history, but there really are none,” Tribe told “OutFront” anchor Erin Burnett.
Even Britain’s King George III “didn’t have this kind of power,” Tribe said.
George “tried to control coverage, but he was responsible to a parliament,” Tribe continued. “This Congress basically does, because of the MAGA element, what the president wants.”

Tribe then invoked France’s King Louis XIV, arguing that the so-called Sun King also “didn’t go this far.”
“We can’t have this in this country. That’s dictatorship,” he said.
