Critics of Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) are calling him a “disgrace” after The Wall Street Journal published a report Thursday highlighting the senator’s apparent disinterest in his job.

“Difficult to describe how odious @JohnFetterman is, how beyond parody he is, and how wrong so many of us got it when we backed him for Senate in 2022 and then defended him against the right after his stroke,” former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan wrote Thursday on X.
The Journal report cited more than a dozen former staffers and lawmakers, as well as text messages and other records, to suggest Fetterman is indifferent to his actual constituents and prefers building relationships with conservative media figures and supporting Israel.
According to the report, Fetterman evaded three paralyzed military veterans in June who had hoped to discuss legislation that would improve their medical care by having staffers greet them and claim the senator was feeling ill.
“Less than an hour after his staffers met with the veterans in his place, Fetterman walked into his office, showing no signs of illness,” wrote the Journal. “He had an appointment he didn’t want to miss, he told staff: an interview with Fox News to discuss Israel and the war in Iran.”
Fetterman, who had a stroke in 2022 and has threatened to leave the Democratic Party over criticism of Israel, reportedly also asked an aide why he had to “keep having to meet” with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to discuss last year’s Medicaid cuts.
The Journal report sparked widespread social media backlash against Fetterman from members of his own party, with Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.) calling him “a disgrace” — and Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.) appearing to call for Fetterman’s resignation on X.
Deluzio wrote, “There is a lot I could say about this report of John Fetterman’s pathetic behavior as a Senator. But between the laziness, disrespect, and willingness to carry water for a foreign government, it shows us something we already know: this man has no sense of duty.”

Fetterman reportedly also called attending a funeral for three police officers killed near his hometown last year a “nonstarter” due to its three-hour-length — and told Israeli ambassador Yechiel Leiter that he would write an op-ed supporting Israel using Leiter’s talking points.
The senator is up for reelection in 2028; he was veritably torched over the allegations on X.
