Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) said President Donald Trump seems to be treating the Constitution like a “suggestion box” while discussing the president’s decision to ban CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House.

Moore was baffled by Trump’s attacks on the press, reminding “State of the Union” anchor Dana Bash how ditching the First Amendment is just one of several parts of the Constitution Trump appears “to have a real problem” with.
“Whether it is the freedom of the press, whether it is voting rights, whether it is state rights, you know, things that are very clearly laid out,” the governor said.
Stressing the importance of free speech, Moore continued, “And, again, not even just clearly laid out, that, at the founding of this nation, that the founding fathers of this country found it to be so important that they made things like the freedom of the press and free speech and freedom of assembly so important that they made it the First Amendment, the first thing they wanted to get done in this country.”
“The president continues to use the Constitution like it is a suggestion box, simply because he does not like the coverage,” he said. “I would just hope that this administration would spend a little bit of time reading, instead of just talking.”
After journalists from CNN, Politico and MS NOW were denied entry to the White House on Saturday, Bloomberg reporter Catherine Lucey asked the president if he was planning to add any other outlets to his blacklist.
“Others to come in terms of, uh, fake news?” Trump said. “Look, The New York Times is fake news, uh, Washington Post is fake news. They’re crummy papers. Both doing very poorly, by the way, but we’ll see.”
