Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tore into one-time ally President Donald Trump on Thursday during a discussion about the future of his “Make America Great Again” movement.

And it’s not a very bright one, she said.
“I think Trump has lied so much to us and betrayed us so incredibly beyond any of my comprehension,” Greene said at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin. “I think MAGA is dead.”
The audience cheered.
But Greene wasn’t done, and she wasn’t about to throw in with the other side, either.
“I feel like both parties have failed us,” she said, arguing that the policies of Democrats and Republicans led to the $40 trillion national debt and the loss of jobs ― especially manufacturing jobs ― overseas.
“I watched every single small town in Georgia basically erode over my lifetime,” she added. “I’m 52 years old, and every little small town I know has basically shut down factories that are like looming skeletons of an era gone by. To me, that’s heartbreaking.”
Greene claimed she was never a “hardcore Republican,” but ran for office in 2020 because she was mad at the party and wanted to see change. At the time, she believed in Trump’s promise to put America first and keep the country out of foreign wars.
Now, Greene doesn’t see a “credible candidate” emerging from either party for 2028.
Greene was once a loyal MAGA foot soldier and often by Trump’s side: on the campaign trail, at the White House and at his Mar-a-Lago resort. But the two had a dramatic and very public falling-out last year over her push to release the files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was once friends with Trump.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump and his allies promised to furnish the files, only to actively block their release once he was back in office. Trump has called those files a “Democrat hoax” and branded Greene a “traitor.”
Greene resigned from Congress in Nov. 2025, and apologized for her role in what she called “toxic politics.”
