Secretary of State Marco Rubio has talked about the viral image that spawns a fresh meme seemingly every time another job is floated for the man who already wears multiple other hats in the Trump administration.

The February 2025 photo shows Rubio appearing to sink into an Oval Office couch during a tense meeting between President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Rubio’s appearance in the image is now frequently doctored every time a possible new role for him comes up, whether it’s political or something completely unrelated.
“When it first came out, I hated that picture,” Rubio told Fox News host (and Trump’s daughter-in-law) Lara Trump this weekend.
“What happened is, on that couch, if you don’t have a pillow behind your back, you kind of sink,” he explained.

He continued: “So I looked at the pictures, ‘Oh, this is terrible. I look like, whatever.’ And then it turned into this other thing, it was fine, it was funny.”
“I don’t really follow it very closely, but people have shown me pictures,” he added, revealing that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino had even made a board featuring many of the memes.
