James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas, trolled President Donald Trump during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, which the late-night host claimed was pulled from television over threats made by the FCC.

After suggesting that Trump may have some “buyer’s remorse” about his decision to support Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) over current Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Talarico said there was always time for the president to join his camp.
“I know the president likes to win. He’s a big winner, and if he wants to be on the winning side in this race, he is welcome to join the movement that we’re building,” Talarico said.
Kimmel also played clips from Wednesday night’s Republican midterm convention, where Trump seemed to mock Paxton for how he dresses and the way he talks.
“I’m James Talarico – and I approve that message,” Talarico said in response to Trump’s comments.
According to Kimmel, the 20-minute interview was available only on YouTube to avoid potential violations of the FCC’s equal-time rule.

“You know, I mentioned last night this interview will not be televised because of threats from the FCC led by commissioner Brenda Carr, who says we do not have the right to interview whichever candidates we want to interview,” Kimmel said during his opening monologue.
In a statement provided to multiple outlets, the White House denied that the FCC had threatened ABC or Kimmel over the interview.
“Jimmy Kimmel is play-acting — as he often does — to create a false narrative about this administration’s policies,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said. “[FCC] Chairman [Brendan] Carr has not threatened him regarding interviewing James Talarico, or any other candidate. Any media outlet blindly amplifying Kimmel’s egocentric delusion should insist on proof. Of which they will find none.”
Prior to the interview, Talarico addressed the issue during an appearance on MS NOW.
“People at the top, powerful politicians, powerful media executives, censoring what we watch, what we read, what we say,” Talarico said. “And that, again, should be a concern to everyone who believes in the First Amendment and believes in the freedom of speech.”
