The Blue Jays’ George Springer hit a ball to left field that got misplayed on a bounce by the Mets’ Juan Soto, who let the ball get by him to the outfield wall. Center fielder A.J. Ewing then tried to field the ball, and it slipped out of his hand.

By then, Springer’s round-tripper was a fait accompli.
The Toronto player was actually credited with a triple and Ewing was charged with an error for his bobble, MLB.com reported.
“It just took a weird hop on me and bounced a little different,” Soto said, per ESPN. “I thought I had a chance and then it just kept dying. I definitely took a good first step, but the ball just kept dying.”
Kinda like the Mets’ season. The team fell to a season-high 15 games under .500 despite high hopes and high payroll.

Manager Carlos Mendoza was fired on Friday.
