My Convenient New Storage Solution Is A Genius Use Of Wasted Space

I’ve been clocking pegboards all over the home organization space lately, from the aisles of HomeGoods and Ikea to the seemingly endless options on Amazon. And the more I saw them, the more I realized these simple organizers might be one of the most underrated storage hacks out there.

For starters, they’re endlessly customizable. Think about it: A pegboard, like this one I found on Amazon, can turn an otherwise unused door or wall into storage for hats, purses, bags and coats. It can organize camera gear, craft supplies or wrapping paper. Put one in a pantry, and suddenly you have a home for cleaning supplies and kitchen odds and ends. You can add simple hooks for hats and bags, small shelves for miscellaneous items or baskets for things that otherwise inevitably wind up scattered around a closet or lost forever in the junk drawer.

There’s another perk I didn’t fully appreciate until I had it: Because the entire board is steel, it’s also magnetic. In addition to traditional pegboard accessories, you can treat the surface almost like the side of a refrigerator. I’m planning to magnetically clip a calendar to the bottom of mine, and one particularly clever reviewer even added magnets to tools so they could simply stick them directly to the board for grab-and-go access.

I’m currently using mine in a closet, but I’ve already started eyeing another one for our pantry. That’s ultimately what makes the $50 price tag easier for me to justify. You aren’t buying an organizer that’s destined to serve one very specific purpose. If your storage needs change, the pegboard can change right along with them.
