That would be the same Donald Trump who has started a prolonged war of choice with Iran, antagonized allies and sucked up to enemies.
In his address at the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas on Wednesday, the president went nearly full Armageddon in his remarks to a not-so-packed arena while leaning into conservatives’ “common sense” mantra ad nauseam.
“And we’re gonna have rallies just like this,” he said. “We’re gonna have big arenas loaded up with people so the senators, they’re great people, so many, just great people. Their policies are, you know, they’re common sense. I heard so many of the wonderful politicians that spoke. I watched a lot of them, and they talked about common sense. It’s really about common sense more than anything else. It’s not about stupid policies that led us down the drain. We were going down the drain. If we hadn’t won the last election, I’m not sure that our country right now would even exist. It was going so bad.”

Trump has delivered other versions of his doomsday message over the years.
But just in case the Republicans watching Wednesday didn’t buy it, he offered what sure sounded like a $5,000 bribe to change their minds.
Right-wing fear-mongering has also taken root this election cycle in likening progressive Democratic candidates to communists, which Trump used to stoke panic in his keynote ramblings as well.
But perhaps a more immediate disaster awaits the Republicans.
Democrats are favored to retake the House, and one nonpartisan analyst, Decision Desk HQ, now says the Senate is a “toss-up” after 1 million simulations.
