Two-Term GOP Gov. Explains In 1 Savage Minute Why He Supports Democrat In Senate Race

Former Kansas Gov. Bill Graves said Sen. Roger Marshall, a fellow Republican, “has walked away from Kansas people,” so he’s throwing his support behind “breath of fresh air” Democrat Adam Hamilton in the state’s U.S. Senate race.

Graves enthused that he “could not resist” Hamilton as he explained his party break in a persuasive minute or so to CNN host Erin Burnett on “OutFront.”

Graves said he “lost a lot of faith” in Marshall for immediately voting to overturn some 2020 election results.

“I was successful for my tenure in Kansas because I tried to do the right thing for Kansas people,” continued Graves, who served as governor from 1995-2003 after serving as secretary of state. “And it just feels like Roger has gotten lost in the swamp here in Washington and has walked away from Kansas people. And Adam Hamilton is a breath of fresh air. He is a remarkable candidate that has the potential to be a great … bring people together in Washington. And I could not resist supporting him. So Roger lost my support. Adam gained my support. And that’s the way the political process works.”

Hamilton, a megachurch pastor who recently got props from “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough for “running an incredible campaign,” could become the first Kansas Democrat to be elected to the Senate in nearly a century, according to some recent polls.

In a video shared by Hamilton earlier this week, Graves accused Marshall of “turning his back on Kansas” and praised Hamilton as a “bulwark of kindness.”
